The School District

Union Area School District is located in Lawrence County and made up of Union Township and the Independent District of Edinburg.

The school district sits in a scenic, suburban community located 50 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Interstate 376 runs through in Union Township, giving the township direct access to the Pittsburgh International Airport.

Union Area has a population of 5,400. Its nine and one-half square miles has ample room for expansion, much of which is currently underway. The school district, with the exception of Edinburg, and the township lie within the New Castle, Pennsylvania mailing address.

Union Area School District is within twenty miles several colleges and universities including: Westminster College, Grove City College, Geneva College, Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, Youngstown State University and two community colleges.
Union is located within an hour’s drive of downtown Pittsburgh and an hour and a half from Cleveland, Ohio.

The Union Area School District is a school community that supports the education of its youth. The goals of the district are to provide academic, social, emotional, physical, and developmental growth; to develop each student’s full potential in a positive learning experience; and to provide a smooth transition from elementary, middle, and high school and ultimately in preparation for life-long learning.
We are proud to say that we accomplish these goals through the many programs and activities offered to our students by a dedicated faculty and staff we provide for our students in the Union Area School District.
